Out & about

Casa de Eiriz” is a rural manor house dating from the XVII century, that has always belonged to the Madureira e Castro family (Souza Magalhães de Madureira e Castro). The first known written document indicates that the first owner of the “Casa da Quinta de Eiriz” was Mateus de Magalhães Ferraz, captain in the XVII century war between Portugal and Spain, who became a sheriff in Vila Pouca de Aguiar and died in Eiriz in 1717.

The main entrance gate is built in carved granite, and features a coat of arms and a niche where it is believed there was an image of St Anthony which has unfortunately disappeared.

The house has a chapel where religious celebrations have been carried out since 1783.

When the house was completely renovated in the 90s, the family took every possible care to carry it out according to the original house plans and keeping the original granite walls whenever possible.
